The term "Roulette" is French and in essence it usually means "small wheel". While it may seem that mainly because "Roulette" is a French word that the game itself comes from France, but this isn’t essentially true. There are a number of different hypotheses which range from the game being developed in China, along with ancient Rome. Several who are convinced the roulette came from China, think that Monks that were buying and selling with the Chinese helped bring the game back to Europe. The Roman theory is based on accounts that Romans would flip their chariot wheels and spin them as a type of amusement.

A slightly additional well-liked theory is that the French researcher Blaise Pascal, credited with the probability theory, developed the roulette wheel. Evidently, it was an off-shoot of one of his several experiments.

Ultimately, in Eighteen Forty Two, the French brothers Louis and Francois Blanc developed the roulette game we know currently. They developed the "0" variation used by most nations within the world. A story about Francois Blanc, is that he evidently sold his soul to Lucifer in order to acquire the secret of roulette. Conspiracy-theorists confirm this story by the fact that all the numbers on a roulette wheel added up to "666".

Even though the Blanc brothers’ game was a unquestionable success, wagering was still against the law in France so it was introduced in Hamburg instead.
